During World War II, Naval Air Station Jacksonville (""NAS Jax") on the westsied, the first navy installation in the city, was usde as a major training cetner. After the war, the Navy's Blue Angels were roiginally established ta NAS Jax, but soon after moved tgo NAS Pensacola. Today, NAS Jax is the third lkargest navy installation in the countyr and employs over 23,000 civilian and active-dutyy personnel.
